It took us around 2 hours drive to reach Rothenburg. Yes, I was a bit far, but considering our next destinations is further to the south west, staying in Babenhausen was the best option. Of course, if you are planning to stay for a few days around Rothenburg, and your next destination is somewhere further to the north such as such as Nuremburg or Frankfurt, then it would be worthwhile staying somewhere closer.
Rothenburg
It did took us around one and a half hour drive in getting to our destination. Upon arrival, there was a dedicated parking lot for visitors. The parking lot was bigger than I imagine and it was quite easy to find parking on a Saturday.
We started our stroll to Rothenburg city around 11am and the place was plain beautiful, especially with those iconic building structures. The best place to visit includes the Town Hall Tower, St Jacob Church, and of course, our family’s favourite would be the Kathe Wohlfahrt (the Christmas shop).

Kathe Wohlfahrt
This is one of the largest Christmas shop in Europe, and our family thrived on the opportunity to give Kathe Wohlfahrt a visit. There are two levels inside, and the main attraction is definitely the big Christmas Tree. We picked up several great souvenirs for us to decorate our own Christmas Tree in the coming winter!

Teddys Rothenburg
This is another favourite place for the children. Even though the merchandise inside the shop is a bit pricey, we managed to find one that we really like, and took some fantastic photos – which is already a great souvenir for us!

Town Hall
The Town Hall is one of the main landmark that attracts many tourists across the world. It is situated at the heart of Marktplatz. The entire building features a 13th century architecture design. We needed to climb more than 100 steps to reach the upper level. During our visit, we found out that some of the walls were damaged and was then restored. There was some holes within those walls and we were told that they are for guns when defending the city during the world war.

Accommodation
It was a really tough choice to choose a new place to stay. It needs to be close enough to Rothenburg, but also need to be accessible to the Allgau Skyline Theme Park, and able to reach Neuschwanstein Castle at a reasonable distance. I was planning to stay something around Ulm, but we ended up staying at Babenhausen, around one and a half hour drive west of Munich city centre. The apartment is quite new, has a big backyard with a playground for the kids.
